Snow Day!

Today we had a day off, so no classes, and no school. The funny part was it seemed a lot worse yesterday, but today works too! Have not done much on my day off besides making up some homework. Not even sure if I am supposed to post a blog on a snow day, but it doesn't hurt to do it anyway.

Hammurabi Code

Today in class we focused on the Hammurabi Code. The Hammurabi Code was a series of laws created by King Hammurabi. Some of the laws went like this:

-if one steals a minor son of another, they shall be put to death.
-If persons are stolen, then shall the community and ... pay one mina of silver to their relatives.
-If he be not able to replace the corn, then he and his possessions shall be divided among the farmers whose corn he has flooded.

A lot of these laws are very harsh by today's standards but back in their time, they were acceptable. The key was equality, but this was not the case with different social classes. If a poor man killed a rich man, he might be put to death, but if a rich man kill a poor man, he might just have to pay a fine. Some laws are similar to today's laws while others seem absurd. Most consequences have to do with paying money back, or killing or hurting someone.

Today in class we started to get into the western civilization class. I have some information previously on West Civ but I think this class will teach me a lot more. We started to go over pre history and some of the early civilizations. Early history has always fascinated me and how civilization advances. I feel like I will enjoy this class.

A new class!

It is my first Western Civilization class and I am excited for the new class and for this new semester. We are going over how are blogs are going to work and it seems like a cool idea and I think I will enjoy it. I have some new classmates that I have not had a class with before and some that I already know, so it is a good diversity. Right now I am not exactly sure what I should be writing, but I think I will just keep writing as filler.
